Growing up, every Sunday at Hebrew School, tunes of the guitar and children singing were heard from the music room. A song we sang at every Show and Kvel (Show and Tell), “Wherever you go there’s always someone Jewish, you are never alone when you say you’re a Jew!,” and could not have been more true. Seven years later, and I’m at a BBYO chapter event far from New York in Houston, Texas.  Over MLK weekend, my twin sister and I traveled to Houston to reunite with one of our best friends from CLTC 4. During those three days I found a temporary home in Tikvah BBG #2573. The event that night was chapter bonding as well a chapter board information session.

I found myself relating to a million little things said by someone I met less than an hour ago. We made friendship bracelets, traded Goodreads information, and chatted to our heart's content. The other day I bought a book based on their recommendations and I’ll see three members of her chapter at IC!  Though I was 1,669.8 miles from home, or a 24-hour drive, I had discovered a new place for me in Houston. I would have never met the wonderful members of Tikvah or my CLTC friend if I weren’t Jewish. From being Jewish we all have something similar in our identities that connect us together. I can contest the song is true, “you’re never alone when you say you’re a Jew.”
