During Global Shabbat, regions from all around the world celebrated in many different ways, but my region, NSR, celebrated in our own special way:

NSR hosted a Channukah-themed Shabbat at a local synagogue. Members dressed up in Shabbat attire and participated in a meaningful service.

As members of NSR started arriving, they were brought outside to take Shabbat pictures. Shabbat pictures were taken at a BBYO step and repeat (photo wall) and outside of the temple. After Shabbat pictures concluded, members were brought into the sanctuary at the synagogue. The service was led by the local Rabbi, Cantor, and teen coordinators. The service concluded with the entire congregation getting up on the bema, having a 64-second moment of silence for the 64 days Israelis have been held hostage, and singing the Hatikvah. To say this moment was moving is an understatement.

Following the amazing service was a Shabbat dinner. At dinner, we ate, sang with our friends, and enjoyed a great dinner. After eating, we were brought into a room consisting of many games, such as ping pong, foosball, and poker. Here we played games and had fun with our friends!

After playing many games, we were taken into a dessert room. We were served Channukah-themed candy such as yellow, blue, and white M&M’s, blue chocolate-covered pretzels, and much more. In this room, there was also an ice cream bar with delicious toppings and even a spooey bar with 6 different types of icing!

After dessert, our night concluded, and it was time to go home! I am proud to say that NSR’s Global Shabbat was successful, with almost 150 teens in attendance. This event was so much fun, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!
